The Manila Hotel’s Premier Steakhouse
The Manila Hotel opened Cowrie Grill in 1997. Through the years, the restaurant had become an institution as the hotel’s signature premier steakhouse where many memories were made; and where special occasions and formal celebrations were held. Generations who grew up dining at the old station at The Manila Hotel talk about the flair and élan best remembered about the Cowrie Grill.
In 2011, the iconic Cowrie Grill gave way to the expansion and renovation of the hotel’s Café Ilang-Ilang, an international buffet restaurant. However, with its strong following, its reopening was but inevitable.
Home in Greenhills
Cowrie Grill was re-launched in 2013 at its new home in Greenhills Promenade, an off-site restaurant managed by The Manila Hotel. Its new location is central to its clientele and has further expanded the hotel’s reach.
The restaurant is still reminiscent of its familiar interiors, retaining the Grand Dame’s iconic lavish display of original cowrie shells that cast in a soft amber glow, further adding a dramatic touch to its lighting fixtures. This beautiful backdrop and understated elegance make for an unforgettable dining experience at the Cowrie Grill.

Dining at Cowrie Grill is a gastronomical journey with its signature premier steak selections and seafood favorites. Relish in delectable dishes like the seared duck foie gras or escargot au beurre persillé followed with lobster bisque or fresh mushroom cappuccino. Then order a signature main dish such as the Chateaubriand US Angus, US Angus beef rib and beef striploin, as well as classic combinations such as the surf and turf (steak with seafood) that are best complemented with wine.
